Lynne Azarchie Honored for Repairing the World



The Princeton-Mercer-Bucks Jewish Federation honored Lynne Azarchie. She held leadership roles with the Jewish Community center (Abrams Camp); the Kidsbridge Tolerance Center in Ewing; the American Jewish Committee; and two  interfaith organizations.



Ms.Azarchi conceived and administered the Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum.  Each year, elementary and middle school youth interact with education and psychology undergraduates, supervised by college professors.  College students and retired seniors volunteer as docents in the Museum.  

The jewel in the Kidsbridge crown is the Tolerance Museum.

It also hosts a weekly life skills programs for at-risk elementary and middle school youth in Trenton, and an annual competition for youth & adult community service

    Art   I used to received your blogs regarding Trenton's Jewish community and 1 that I remember was from a Trentonian author that was living in New Zealand in which he mentioned an illegal liquor "still" in the period of Prohibition built by his uncle on Union St.   I figured he was referring to the still that was built to my mother's brother, my uncle, Abe Byer, next door to my grandfather's (and later my father's) hardware store at 63 Union St. and came to the conclusion that he was the New Zeeland's person uncle by was of his wife. Downtown Trenton, 1929

Downtown Trenton Harry Podmore 1929 Although there were a disproportionate number of professionals (Physicians, Attorneys, Certified Public Accountants, Dentists), most reverted to the family business of selling merchandise. However, they did it on a much larger scale. Trenton was known for its ‘downtown.’ Between Willow and City Hall, there were 100’s of stores, both small and large. The interesting fact is that most of them were owned by the sons and daughters of ‘Jewtown.’ During the era of the 1920’s, Jews had difficulty getting onto college, if for no other reason that they were Jewish. If they were ‘lucky’ enough to attend college from 1929 on, they returned home to support a Depression-starved family. Downtown Trenton had been a busy commercial district after the Greene St. (Broad St.) overpass forded the Assinpink Creek.
