Hi,
Arthur – I am Carolyn Doranz Allen, Trenton native (West State Street) now
living in Newton, MA for past 55 years and doing gen research for past five
years. In fact, my oldest and dearest friend, Phyllis Sokalner Eisner,
showed me your book on Trenton history. I found it very interesting and
hope you are not offended, but as an English major (Wellesley ’59) I
wanted to blue-pencil all the misspellings.
Phyllis
and I went to Cadwalader School, Junior Three and THS.
I
also think you may be related to my dear friend Joan Brody Hellerman (her mom
Jean was a Finkle) and my uncle-by-marriage, Abe Finkle, late owner of Finkle’s
in Lambertville.
Enough
with identity. I have a question that you might be able to answer:
Most
of the Doranzes have lived in Trenton since the 1890's. Is there any way
I can get more information on Dave Silverstein who my brother Jeffrey Doranz
(do you know him?) remembers was a sheriff in Trenton in the 1950s and may be a
relative? I have tried Google and Ancestry but his name is so common that
I couldn't nail anything down. Anything that would help me zero in on him in
Ancestry, like years of birth and death, names of children and wife? Address?
I
appreciate any help and trust that my comment about your spelling won’t spoil
our hoped-for relationship . Thanks so much.
Best
from one native to another,
Carolyn

Best
from one native to another,
So
nice to hear from you. I am sorry that I can’t supply a blue-penciled mark up
since I don’t own a copy. I read it at Phyllis’. I did some professional
editing and proofreading a long time ago, but Phyllis Sokalner Eisner would
be equally qualified. We are both old-school purists! Do you know
her?

Oo
Aren’t I annoying? My kids used to call me “English Major Mama” and stopped showing me their papers because I was stricter than their teachers
Thx
for the info on Dave Silverstein. Were you involved in that great video “ Jew
Town”?
That’s
all folks, but if I have any other Trenton questions you sound like the guru
to ask.
Warmly,
Carolyn
Ps
a bit of Trenton memorabilia: Both Phyllis ( my oldest bestest friend)
and I took piano lessons from Eddie Hatrak, Ernie Kovacs’ arranger (
hats off to The Nairobi Trio).

I
have not communicated with you in over 60 years!
Jeff
was one of my very best friends. He and I were in same blended grade
5-6 at Cadawalader School
I
would appreciate your blue-penciled copy because of the publisher's rush, I
know errors occurred. (that I want to correct).
Small
world – Abe Finkle was my Dad’s first cousin. Joe Finkle, Lambertville) and
Sam Finkle (my Zaddie) were brothers! I’m in touch with Estelle, yet
another Finkle as well as Howard and David Finkle (Perry St)
From
1910 census, David Silverstein was a new-born/
Please
keep in touch.

Wow, Art, you sure are a busy
guy! Doing good, meaningful things. Good for you!
What or where is Cobblestone
Creek? And what is the College of New Jersey? Rutgers?
And is Maurice Finnell a family
member? How is he related?
Sorry for all the questions, since
you're so busy, but you've certainly sparked my curiosity.
I'm also sorry I don't think I have
a way to send you money, though I don't have that much to send. I have
neither a credit card nor a checking account.
Take care, keep up the good work.
