I'm new to the group; thanks to Lynne Coane Brofman. Thanks
for the invite. Love seeing all the photos, and the familiar. My grandparents
The Shippers from Berkeley Avenue owned Stacy Laundry, and Sanitary Linen
Supply on Ward Avenue. My Savannah connection is my late Aunt Charlotte Shipper
Garfunkel who moved to Savannah after her marriage. My gazillion cousins are
all still there. The connection between my family and so many of the posted
photos is simply awesome. My brothe…

My family in Wilkes-Barre was poor. This is
what we used to cut the grass till the end of the 70s.
Good
memories.

Thank you once again. I read the article on the
history of Trenton with great interest. I did not grow up in Trenton, but I
still have an attachment to the city as I graduated from TCHS and Trenton
Junior College continuing on at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky
earning a B.S. and an M.S. in Biology. I was employed at Merck and Novartis
before retiring. I then did consulting for Pfizer, Forrest, and Schering,
working in Pharmaceutical Toxicology.
A little additional information on the Hafetz
family. David Hafetz came from a family of butchers. At retirement David (wife
Ida), gave the Market Street shop to Frank wife (Nettie) and Joe (wife Esther)
as you did write. Joe left the business and ran a metal recycling facility in
Pennsylvania. Frank ran the butcher shop until his early death and his wife
Nettie continued running the shop. The third son of David and Ida was Morris
(wife Florence), who was a practicing physician in Trenton with an office on
Centre Street. My mother Rebecca Evans (husband Leo), was a sister to
Nettie. A third sister living in Trenton was Lillian Kaplow, married to
Sam (Kappy) Kaplow.
Wow memories
My parents were members. As a child, my
sister and I spent a lot of time at the pool. My father spent many a Wednesday
and Saturday afternoon on the golf course.
Where my family started in Trenton in the
1880s. I believe we one the first Jewish families to move "west" to
Hermitage Ave (with an interim stop on Warren St ... above their liitle
"corner" store). But I'm sure they must have continued to shop and
